My review of The Mistaken:
I often make the mistake of accepting books outside of the genre that I prefer without having actually learned anything about the book before agreeing to review it. This book is most definitely one of those books. I knew nothing about it, other than it was not a genre I typically enjoy reading.
I swished my finger across the screen of my reader and opened to the prologue and groaned as I was reading it. I was utterly convinced that I was going to absolutely hate this book. I was wrong, I did not hate it, it was not my favorite but I did not hate it either. It is a genre that I do not normally read but it had elements of other genre's that I do enjoy reading.
The characters made a powerful impact on me and the hardships that they went through within the novel really blew me away. I was not expecting them to be as three dimensional as they were. I felt the pain that they were going through and I understood why they felt the way they did about it. I hated some of the slow parts so much that I often found myself trying to speed through it to get to the next good portion.
That is my only actual complaint about the story, that there were times through the story that was too slow for me . I wanted the action to come faster, I wanted the characters to figure out what I had figured out faster. Another thing that ruined it for me was the prologue. I expected something and it took over half of the book to come to that action that was teased to me in the prologue. I did not need the tease. If this had been a book I was not going to review, after reading the tease I would never have read the rest of the book.
I did enjoy the book, once I forced myself to read it. I am glad I did, I have a better understanding of why we make the choices that we make in desperately sad times.I would recommend this book to people who like a bit of murder with their love story. I rated this book 4 out of 5.
Synopsis:
